As we move into another new year, we’d like to let you know that 2023 will see the launch of our very own podcast - the FileMaker DevCast, about everything FileMaker. We’re putting the final touches on the first couple of episodes and more details will be available soon online at our website and on social media. We also invite you to join us in Zoom twice a month for FileMaker FixIt! for FREE help with YOUR FileMaker issues. This open meeting is hosted by one of our expert Claris FileMaker developers, who is available to answer your questions. And lastly, read further to enjoy a fun glimpse into each of our home offices. (Wait until you see Andy’s monitor!) Thank you for following along with our blog posts. We wish you all a very Happy New Year!
When I meet people and tell them I build custom apps in FileMaker, the number of people who recall the platform from years and years ago with a nostalgic smile is impressive. Perhaps the loyalty FileMaker users have toward the platform is an important reason Claris FileMaker has thrived for so long. Along with PowerPoint and Microsoft Word, FileMaker stands with some of the few software applications nearing 40 years old. It has become a software platform that has stood the test of time. But in today's age, your FileMaker Pro database management system is no longer a stand-alone solution. It needs to become the hub to connect your existing business applications and integrate them with custom solutions in the cloud.
Before understanding the importance of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) in custom software design, we first need to understand that these concepts - often used interchangeably as UI/UX - are two distinct areas. It is wise to approach the concepts of UX and UI design independently, though they will both be vital to a successful final product.
At Portage Bay, we’re very excited to announce that we have recently been elevated to Platinum status as a Claris Partner. 📣 With this designation, Portage Bay joins the top tier of FileMaker developers and Claris solution providers. Becoming a Platinum Partner is by invitation only from Claris and means that Portage Bay has demonstrated strong support for the six pillars of excellence defined by Claris - design, develop, educate, innovate, advocate, and grow.
In the FileMaker community, the Claris FileMaker certification exam is one of the primary means of identifying an individual or firm as a recognized professional in the field. We’re excited to announce that Senior Partner (and co-founder) of Portage Bay Solutions, John Newhoff, earned an additional certification by passing the version 19 exam last week. Congrats, John! Pass the cake! 🎉 🍰
The Claris Beyond Meetup had the pleasure of hearing David Wollesen, of protabase, share about Devin, the new and complete DevOps tool for Claris FileMaker.
