Last week, Claris announced two exciting new initiatives, the first a new Software as a Service (SaaS) platform called Claris Studio, and the second a new program for helping Claris users get the most out of their solutions. One of our goals as we’ve grown through the years is to be able to hire a person to coordinate the planning and implementation of our online presence, connection with our clients, and our marketing efforts. We are delighted to welcome Kim Nellans on board as our Digital Content and Marketing Coordinator.
Kim has an extensive background in web design and front-end development, including her web design business Tiny Zen Studio, and is currently pursuing further studies in the areas of user interface and user experience. Welcome to post #182 of our Portage Bay Solutions blog! Our blog launched ten years ago on this date and is something we enjoy creating in order to continue with our own learning and knowledge and to help our Claris FileMaker community stay engaged and curious as well. We’ve covered topics such as navigating portals like a spreadsheet, ransomware awareness, our appreciation for PauseOnError, and our preference for pasta puttanesca. The past year has seen over 2,500 downloads of our free add-ons & demos (which number over twenty and counting!) And in the last six years our number of unique visitors has grown over 3,000%, from 800 per year to over 26,000. Thank YOU for following along and participating with us.
Use our FREE, updated modular export script to export all data from FileMaker Pro! In FileMaker Pro 19.4, Claris introduced the new FileMaker_BaseTableFields table to the metadata tables accessible via the ODBC interface and the Execute SQL function. Rather than containing one record for each field in each table occurrence, the new table contains just one field for each base table that exists on the relationship graph. We used this update to make our modular export script more bulletproof and more useful.
We all know that Claris has added significant new capabilities in the last several versions of FileMaker Pro for creating custom web applications, especially with the introduction of the FM Data API in FileMaker 16. With the recent successful production deployment of a new custom web app project, I thought it would be a good time to write a blog post about a couple of web applications we’ve done for clients utilizing FileMaker Pro as the back end database engine.
