In the FileMaker community, the Claris FileMaker certification exam is one of the primary means of identifying an individual or firm as a recognized professional in the field. We’re excited to announce that Senior Partner (and co-founder) of Portage Bay Solutions, John Newhoff, earned an additional certification by passing the version 19 exam last week. Congrats, John! Pass the cake! 🎉 🍰
The Claris Beyond Meetup had the pleasure of hearing David Wollesen, of protabase, share about Devin, the new and complete DevOps tool for Claris FileMaker. Devin creates an integrated project workspace for collaborative, branched development, version control, change logging, unit/integration testing, release management, automated deployment and data migration, and centralized server monitoring — all from within FileMaker Pro.
PauseOnError, the FileMaker ‘un-conference’ has been the main in-person developers conference now for two years. This year’s version will take place next week in Georgia. Last year Portage Bay did a session on the different kinds of logging in FileMaker - event logging, audit logging, error logging, etc. This year we’re going to do a session on learning third party APIs - tools we use, looking at documentation, etc. Portage Bay’s senior level developer, Joe Ranne, and I will lead the discussion and I’m sure we’ll learn as much from the session attendees as they might learn from us.
As Claris FileMaker developers we are always on the lookout for resources that will enhance our solutions in an easy and intuitive way. DataTables can be a rather challenging feature to implement from scratch without some serious learning and research, but resources like the popular Carafe Kitchen provide a great starting point for anyone wanting to implement a basic DataTables integration. Like any great resource though, it’s important to understand its limitations. While Carafe offers a great tool kit for basic DataTable integrations, it’s not always the easiest to expand so today we’ll explore two development processes for creating your own DataTables integration - Carafe Kitchen and JSDev.
Welcome to the fourth part of this summer’s blog series about Harnessing the Power of Digital Transformation. This post offers real-world advice on implementing a successful custom software project. Download the free tool and use it as a guide that will take you through the steps of analyzing your business goals, seeing examples of digital tools to help with that goal, and choosing relevant KPIs to measure your success. It was built using Claris FileMaker 19, in under 15 hours, and also serves as an example of the types of rapid solutions and thorough abilities at which FileMaker excels.
The Claris Beyond Meetup had the pleasure of hearing Jeremy Brown, of Integrating Magic, share about discovering all the JS that we can do in FileMaker. There's a lot of JavaScript we can do in Claris FileMaker Pro. Put another (and more appealing way) there are many more tools available to a FileMaker developer to solve clients' problems in their apps. It's worth exploring all that we can do in JavaScript to be ready when the time comes to implement the language in a client app. Listen to Jeremy walk us through all the possibilities JavaScript gives the FileMaker developer.
