WebDirect is an innovative web technology that instantly runs FileMaker apps directly in a web browser - no web / HTML programming is required. It is the fastest way to access your FileMaker application from the web.
With no web (HTML) programming needed at all, WebDirect allows you to create web-deployed FileMaker solutions with the rapid development tools for which FileMaker Pro is well known. Interaction with your FileMaker solution is supported on desktop, laptop, tablet, and phone web browsers. No additional software installations are required. Anyone with a compatible web browser and access to the Internet can connect to your FileMaker app and are able to perform all standard FileMaker tasks such as viewing, editing, sorting, printing, emailing or searching records. Read about some ways we've incorporated WebDirect for our clients here and here.
FileMaker WebDirect runs in a web browser and uses standard web technologies to render your FileMaker layouts in the browser window. Current and recent versions of Edge, Safari, and Chrome are supported. We find that testing is required to ensure your solution performs well and looks good in your chosen browser deployment environment, and especially if you plan to deploy the same solution to both desktop FileMaker users and WebDirect users. If you can request your end users to only use one of the supported browsers, it will help make testing easier.
When you publish apps on the Internet or an intranet, the host computer must be running on FileMaker Cloud or FileMaker Server, and the apps you want to share must be open. A user license allows clients - including FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Go, and FileMaker WebDirect - to connect to FileMaker Cloud or FileMaker Server. FileMaker WebDirect can support up to 1,000 concurrent users.
Like all technologies and platforms WebDirect does have its limitations. Please give us a call or schedule a 15 minute consultation, or send us a message through this form. We’d be happy to talk with you about how your FileMaker solution can be deployed via WebDirect, or whether WebDirect is appropriate for a project you might have in mind.
